Dark Chocolate Salted Matcha Popcorn

Earthy matcha, rich dark chocolate, and a hit of sea salt — the snack you didn't know you needed

This is the kind of snack that disappears faster than you made it. Freshly popped corn gets tossed in matcha powder for a gorgeous green colour and earthy flavour, then drizzled with melted dark chocolate and finished with flaky sea salt. It's salty, sweet, slightly bitter, and completely addictive. Ready in under 15 minutes and naturally gluten free.

Ingredients

4 serves
  • 8 cups cooked popcorn
  • 1½ tsp matcha powder
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate, melted
  • Sea salt flakes, to finish

Method

  1. 1

Pop your popcorn and spread it out in a single layer on a large lined baking tray.

  2. 2

Sift the matcha powder evenly over the warm popcorn and toss gently to coat.

  3. 3

Melt the dark chocolate in a small bowl in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth.

  4. 4

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the matcha popcorn using a spoon or piping bag.

  5. 5

Scatter sea salt flakes generously over the top.

  6. 6

Allow the chocolate to set at room temperature for 10 minutes, or pop in the fridge for 5 minutes to speed it up. Serve immediately.

Kitchen Notes

Use a good quality matcha — ceremonial or culinary grade both work well. The better the matcha, the more vibrant the green colour. For extra richness, use 70% or higher dark chocolate. Best eaten the same day as the chocolate can make the popcorn soft over time.

What I'd serve with this

Perfect for movie nights, grazing boards, or gifting in a paper bag tied with ribbon. Also lovely alongside a matcha latte.
