Everything you love about a burger — juicy seasoned beef, crisp shredded lettuce, fresh tomatoes, and that irresistible burger sauce — served in a bowl instead of a bun. This is a quick, satisfying weeknight dinner that comes together in under 30 minutes and feels a little bit special.

Ingredients

2 serves
  • 3 storebought GF beef patties
  • ½ onion, sliced
  • Iceberg lettuce, finely shredded
  • Fresh coriander
  • Grape tomatoes, halved
  • Chilli flakes, to taste
  • Purple onion, finely diced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Burger Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1½ Tbs gherkin relish
  • 1 Tbs American mustard
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method

  1. 1

Make the burger sauce first: combine the mayonnaise, gherkin relish, American mustard, white vinegar, sugar, smoked paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Mix well, season with salt and pepper to taste, and set aside. The sauce can be made ahead and kept in the fridge for up to a week.

  2. 2

Heat a drizzle of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the raw beef patties and immediately begin breaking them apart with a wooden spoon into rough crumbles as they cook. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 6–8 minutes until browned, cooked through, and slightly crispy at the edges. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

  3. 3

In the same pan, cook the sliced onion over medium heat until softened and lightly golden, about 5–6 minutes. Set aside.

  4. 4

Toss the halved grape tomatoes with the finely diced purple onion, chilli flakes, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

  5. 5

To assemble the bowls, divide the shredded iceberg lettuce between two bowls. Add the beef crumbles and cooked onion, then top with the tomato mixture and fresh coriander.

  6. 6

Drizzle generously with burger sauce and serve immediately.
